Back in 1992 , I used to know a little boy named Femi.

I know him because I often see him sleeping in the open air of the street every night.

I heard from people that he was an orphan.
This was shocking to me because he was only seven-year-old.
They said his parents diēd when he was five.
They said they diēd in a terrible car accident.
And the worse of it all was the fact that he had no other relative to take care of him.

So, after his parents dèath, the awful landlord of their house drove Femi away.
Ever since then, the boy began to live and survive in the streets.

The day was always better for Femi, though he spent it begging for alms in a market nearby.

He used the crumpled notes he received from people in the market to buy food for himself.
But the food was never really enough for him.

The night was always worse as Femi shivered in its coldness, hoping that someone would offer him a blanket to cover himself with.

But of course, no one cared to do that.

The nights it rained were the most terrible; Femi, with his body drenched in water, would knock at the doors of the homes in the street, begging them for cover in their house for he was terribly cold, but no one opened their door for him. They left him in the frosty rain.

I would have helped, but I was only five myself.
I could only watch Femi from the window of our house every night as he begged for blankets to cover himself with, to chase the chilliness of the night.

One day, things took a different turn.
Everyone in our street was suddenly kind enough to give Femi a cover.
They finally lent a covering to him.
They covered him.
With a thick blanket.
Then with sand.

After they found his decaying body at a corner of the street days after he diēd from starvation.
